Join us for a full day of celebrating community at Weeksville Heritage Center as we honor Black histories and Black futures! Take part in an enriching lineup of events—from sacred drumming and hands-on workshops to thought-provoking talks and some friendly trivia competition. Connect with local vendors, enjoy free smoothies and desserts, and engage with social justice organizations making an impact right here in Brooklyn.
Join us for Through Fabric & Frame, a daylong exploration of Black feminist artistic traditions through the works of Faith Ringgold and Lorraine O’Grady. Enjoy a family-friendly reading of Tar Beach and art-making session, a quilting workshop inspired by Ringgold, and a discussion of O’Grady’s Olympia’s Maid. Photographer Laila Annmarie Stevens will lead a photography activation, reactivating O’Grady’s Art Is… series. Timed sign-ups are required for the workshop and portrait sessions.
On April 24, @summerschoolradio’s deep listening series returns to Weeksville Heritage Center for its fourth installment. The evening begins at 6 pm with a grounding sound bath by Kia Islam, followed by an intimate live set from Lovie with sound amplified by Karlala Soundsystem. Expect a space for listening, reflection, and collective presence.
Join us on Friday, April 25 from 6–9 PM for (Iterative Fictions), a multimedia performance by artist Eto Otitigbe. Using materials from the Weeksville archives, the project reimagines the Black Archive through sculpture, sound, and projection.
Featuring an original soundscape by Zane Rodulfo and visual projections by Dakota Ray, explores the cultural memory of Central Brooklyn and the possibilities of Black futures.
