The Delicate Balance of Aquatic Ecology
March 17 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Join us for an exploration of one of the most expansive aquatic ecosystems in the Preserve.
The Pocantico River is a sensitive habitat that supports an abundance of wildlife but due to its large footprint, this ecosystem is subject to a broad range of threats. Get your hands dirty with naturalist, Josh DiPaola and educator, Kim Fendrich in this interactive program and see firsthand how our stewardship team evaluates this habitat by taking water samples, searching for aquatic insects, and considering the health of nearby trees as we explain how they are all connected.
Meet in the Visitor’s Center courtyard followed by a 2-mile round trip hike to the Pocantico River and back.
Please bring water to drink and dress warmly in layers.
In the event of rain, the program may be canceled or postponed; you will be notified via email the day before.
Parking: $6 per vehicle.
Max: 20 people. Appropriate for all ages.
