Shirley Chisholm Welcome Center Community Workshop

January 17 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join a community workshop to kick off the creation of the Shirley Chisholm Welcome Center.

Join Morgan Monaco, President of Prospect Park Alliance, Dr. Patricia Ramsey, President of Medgar Evers College, L. Joy Williams, President of the Brooklyn NAACP and Council Member Rita Joseph for a community workshop to kick off the creation of the Shirley Chisholm Welcome Center.

The evening begins with a brief performance by Ingrid Griffith from her one-woman Chisholm show, “Unbossed and Unbowed“.

The Welcome Center will transform an existing maintenance building at the Parkside and Ocean entrance to Prospect Park into a space that complements the new Shirley Chisholm Monument planned for this entrance to the park. The Center, made possible through funding from Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and the Brooklyn Delegation, led by Council Members Crystal Hudson, Rita Joseph, Shahana Hanif, and former Council Majority Leader, Cultural Affairs Commissioner Laurie Cumbo, will orient visitors to the life and legacy of Brooklyn trailblazer Shirley Chisholm, while providing visitor amenities.

Please note that attendees can join this workshop in-person at Medgar Evers College Academic Building 1 or online via Zoom.
