Pining for Pinnae: Ferns of RSPP
November 2, 2023 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
Did you know that ferns are among the oldest plants on Earth? They have been found in the fossil record dating back 360 million years – predating the dinosaurs, land mammals, and flowering plants!
Join botanist, Patty Butter, for a leisurely walk and learn all about ferns.
Explore the fern garden at the Visitor’s Center and get familiar with fern anatomy before heading out into the field to search for more. Contribute as a citizen scientist to increase our knowledge of the ecology of the Preserve by logging your observations in the iNaturalist app.
Bring a camera or cell phone to take pictures and add the iNaturalist app to your phone before attending. Dress for a moderate hike with sun protection and bring water.
Meet in the Visitor’s Center courtyard.
If there is heavy rain, the walk will be canceled; you will be notified via email at least 2 hours in advance.
Max: 12 people.
