Behind the Scenes: Inside Intrepid’s Mess Deck

November 14, 2023 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Go behind the scenes and virtually tour some of the unique spaces within the Intrepid Museum.

Join the Intrepid Museum’s Head Curator Jessica Williams on an exclusive virtual tour of Intrepid’s mess deck as we celebrate the 80th anniversary of USS Intrepid’s commissioning.

While in service, Intrepid was home to over 3,000 enlisted men who lived and worked amidst their own “city at sea” for 6-9 months at a time. This live one-hour virtual experience will give viewers a glimpse into the life of a sailor and explore the role that mealtime played in boosting morale and building community, especially during the holidays. Explore the galleys where cooks prepared seven tons of food each day and the decorative mess areas where the hungry crew dined during their journeys away from home.
