Lichen Lookout
February 21 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Lichens are some of the most fascinating and overlooked organisms in the forest. Join mycologist Taro Ietaka and RSPP Educator Joe Zarzhevsky for a hands on exploration of these unique partnerships between fungi and algae that play an important role in ecosystem health.
Well begin with an introduction to learn what lichens are and why they matter, then head outside to search for, and observe lichens growing on the ground, trees and rocks throughout the Preserve. Afterward, we’ll return indoors to examine lichens up close under a microscopes and discover details invisible to the naked eye.
Dress for outdoor exploration and be ready to see the forest in a whole new way.
