of the trade, including: how to seize the audition from
the moment you enter the room, to choose audition material
that is right for you, to find the story in the song,
what New York casting directors and agents are looking
for and more. Endsley will get down to the basics your

92nd Street Fall, 92nd
Street Y, 1395 Lexington Ave. at 92nd Street, (212)415-5500,
www.92Y.org. SOUNDGARDEN: In this new “Pre-Instrumental”
Class, children ages 4-5 years explore the world of sounds
with “soundmakers”— everything from
bubble wrap and shakers to their own tummies. The “soundmakers”
don’t require learning “technique,”
so children are really free to listen and experiment and
to begin to manipulate and organize sound. Using “pictures”
of sounds on flashcards, they organize the cards/sounds
into sequences (writing music), and use computers to record
their sounds, play them back and digitally manipulate
them in new ways (arranging music and recognizing the
ways different sounds behave and interact). In SoundGarden,
children “grow” their own music, and become
experts in working and playing with sound. They develop
enthusiasm for making music and an understanding of instruments
as tools for self-expression, without first having to
jump through hoops to master the fingering on a violin
or piano. Begins on 9/25. STORYBOOK MUSICAL: Children
ages 8-11 with various vocal and instrumental abilities
create a musical with help from singer/composer Lauri
Wallace. Students learn about the musical as a literary
form, develop analytical writing skills, learn proper
vocal technique and learn about character and plot development.
The yearlong course culminates in a performance of the
musical, which parents may attend. Begins on 9/28; 4-4:45pm.
