This unique spin on the traditional “sip and paint” invites our community to contribute to a collective artwork\, which will be unveiled at the end of the event. This event blends creativity\, history and community-building\, while standing against hate and taking time to recognize Black history. \n \nThis event is part of the Alliance’s ReImagine Lefferts initiative to re-envision the mission and programming of the Lefferts Historic House Museum in Prospect Park to focus on exploring the lives\, resistance and resilience of the Indigenous people of Lenapehoking\, whose unceded ancestral lands the park and house rests upon\, and the Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family. By focusing on stories of resistance\, resilience\, empowerment and joy\, while also recognizing the legacies of dispossession\, enslavement and oppression\, the Alliance seeks to create a safe space for engaging with our collective past as well as contemporary issues affecting our communities today. \n \nIf you would like to participate in the painting activity please select “RSVP to Join the Painting Activity” as supplies are limited. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness\, good over evil\, and knowledge over ignorance. \nIn Prospect Park\, join the celebration by decorating clay with acrylic colors\, and create flower garlands\, called har-mala\, and honor the rich artisanal textiles and attire of India. Plus\, create Rangoli designs with flower petals and enjoy a performance with Rhythm Tolee\, an award winning New York City based Punjabi band. Rhythm Tolee performs a wide variety of songs by mixing Punjabi Folk and Sufi music with hip tunes. \nRSVP to let us know that you’re joining! \nDiwali is associated with Rama in celebration of his return to his kingdom in Ayodhya with his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana after defeating the demon king\, Ravana. Diwali is also associated with Lakshmi\, the goddess of prosperity\, and with the god\, Ganesha. \nAcross the globe\, Diwali is celebrated by illuminating homes\, temples and workspaces with diyas (oil lamps). Hear from the featured artists Jon Key\, Amy Lincoln\, Na’ye Perez\, and Maria Calandra to learn more about their inspiration behind the artwork and celebrate Brooklyn’s Backyard through an inside look at this public art exhibition. The project is installed on the construction fencing of the iconic Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Memorial Arch\, which is currently being restored along with the Plaza and Berms by Prospect Park Alliance through $8.9M in Mayoral funding.  \nPark Of Dreams was made possible in part through a $25\,000 grant from Assembly Member Brian Cunningham\, with additional funding from Council Member Crystal Hudson and ART FOR CHANGE. The project was undertaken through the City Canvas initiative of the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs and in partnership with NYC Parks. \nPark Of Dreams is a curated presentation of contemporary artworks by Marcus Brutus\, Kelly Beeman\, Alyssa Klauer\, Danielle Orchard\, Cydne Coleby\, Jules De Balincourt\, Amy Lincoln\, Bianca Nemelc\, Maria Calandra\, Jon Key\, Kirsten Deirup\, and Na’ye Perez\, which celebrates Brooklyn’s beloved Prospect Park. \nPlease note that the event will be on the North side of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch.
