SUMMARY:Artists Panel X AS INTERSECTION: Resonant Strategies
DESCRIPTION:In-person registration here > \nVirtual registration here > \n  \nThis panel brings artists and audiences into live conversation to explore how tradition\, memory\, and cultural survivance—the enduring presence of marginalized cultures—shape contemporary artistic practice. Working across sculpture\, muralism\, storytelling\, performance\, and minimalism\, artists Tony Cruz Pabón\, Yelaine Rodriguez\, and Nitza Tufiño draw on everyday materials and personal histories. Their work reveals narratives often excluded from dominant cultural frameworks.  \nModerated by artist Miguel Luciano (2021 Latinx Artist Fellowship recipient) and Zuna Maza (Assistant Curator at El Museo del Barrio)\, the program is presented in collaboration with The US Latinx Art Forum. It is part of a five-part public series featuring fellows from the fifth cohort of the Latinx Artist Fellowship\, fostering exchange across generations and geographies.

SUMMARY:Super Sabado: Recuerdos Familiares
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate a day honoring the memories of our ancestors\, family traditions\, and the power of women storytellers\, inspired by the new exhibition\, Amalia Mesa-Bains: Archeology of Memory\, a retrospective by the pioneering artist\, curator\, and theorist. Born in 1943 to a Mexican immigrant family\, Mesa-Bains is a leading figure in Chicanx art for nearly half a century\, producing work that explores intersectional feminist themes\, environmentally centered spirituality\, and cultural diversity. \nThroughout the day\, explore the exhibition with free gallery tours\, then meet us in the Cafe on 104th Street for art activities\, storytelling and dance workshops\, and more. \nThe block party will be followed by a concert presented in collaboration with Carnegie Hall City Wide Concert Series at 4pm in El Museo’s Teatro\, featuring Caña Dulce & Caña Brava. As beneficiaries of jarocho culture and noteworthy performers with years of experience on both national and international stages\, Caña Dulce y Caña Brava’s performances celebrate the music\, poetry\, dance and traditional attire of Veracruz\, Mexico. The group stands out as an artistic project that highlights feminine poetry and voices\, accompanied by traditional string instruments such as the harp and the jarana\, percussion and zapateado. \nAll ages welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is advised; all activities are first come\, first served. \nFree Admission. | To RSVP\, click here.
