Get ready for a year of adventure and excitement as we dive into the past in this fun and educational program. \nPassion for Fashion: Dye Your Own Cloth \nDo you dress better than a furnace worker? With huge bolts of brightly patterned fabric for sale at the Village’s General Store and fashion magazines circulating from house to house\, the folks living at The Howell Iron Works in 1836 were remarkably fashion forward! Join us this October as we learn all about the pigments people used to create\, alter\, and repurpose cloth. Join History Kids Club on a journey to the heart of the Village as we learn about historic dress! Then\, we’ll use a range of natural dyes to color our own fabrics and fibers! \nTickets $12 per child \nNew for 2024: Two Time Slots! one from 11am to 1pm and again from 2pm to 4pm. DESCRIPTION:This special one-hour guided tour tells the story of the last five decades of The Armour-Stiner Octagon House\, during which it has been restored from near-ruin to its 1870s glory. Owner and preservation architect Joseph Lombardi once said that restoring The Octagon House was “like assembling a 500\,000-piece jigsaw puzzle” – a task so overwhelming that many considered it impossible! While exploring the veranda and three primary floors\, visitors will learn about the unbelievably detailed process of determining original interior and exterior paint colors\, the magical moments of uncovering new puzzle pieces of the house’s history\, and how the dome was saved from near collapse.
