SUMMARY:Mindfulness and Stress Management for Middle and High Schoolers @ Dorothy Henry
DESCRIPTION:Life as a middle and high schooler can be incredibly stressful. Come to the library on select Saturdays to talk about ways we hold stress in our body and what we can do about that. We’ll learn some useful stretches you can do in a chair while you work on schoolwork\, as well as some easy yoga poses to help target the most common areas we hold tension in. We’ll talk about ways to try to manage anxiety and stress\, like journaling\, and how those emotions feel in our bodies so that we can try to identify ways to mitigate them. We’ll also learn some mindfulness strategies and end our program with a guided meditation. \nParticipants are asked to bring a yoga mat if they have one (there will be a limited number for loaning)\, bottle of water and wear comfortable clothes that allow for modest movement. Please contact Miss Savannah if you have questions: smarlow@sussexcountylibrary.org \nProgram Dates: \n1/13\, 1/27\, 2/10\, 2/24\, 3/9\, 3/23 \nProgram Start & End Time: 12:00-1:30

SUMMARY:STEM Month For All Ages @Dennis!
DESCRIPTION:Attention STEM enthusiasts! March is New Jersey STEM Month and the Dennis branch is celebrating with a host of science\, technology\, engineering\, and mathematics programs for kids of all ages. \nMarch 6th at 2:00pm: Children ages 7-12 are invited to plan and build a maze for a bot using planks\, connectors\, bumper balls\, pinwheels\, and dominoes. Make tunnels\, doorways\, and obstacles for the little bot to navigate. \nMarch 9th at 11am: Before clocks\, watches\, and smart phones\, people used the sun and shadows to see the passage of time. Come to the library and construct your own sun clock! All materials will be provided and if the day is sunny\, you can go outside and test it out right away! This program is for ages 6 and up. \nMarch 12th at 2:00pm: Did you know you can make a harmonica using three household items? Ages 5-10 can learn how and teach the whole family! Learn about changing pitch by sliding straws and feel how vibration turns into sound! \nMarch 23rd at 2:00pm: Attention families! Come in and challenge one another to see who can create a contraption that will prevent an egg from cracking after being dropped out of the 2nd story window! Kids versus parents\, sibling versus sibling\, teams or individuals are welcome to build a safety suit for a hardboiled egg. Lets see who’s egg survives the fall! \nMarch 26th at 10:00am: Kids ages 2-7 can learn about eclipses and create a chalk drawing of the Sun’s corona\, as seen during a total solar eclipse. \nMarch 27th at 7:00pm: This program for teens is more STEAM than just STEM. The ‘A’ stands for art and the teens will be creating art by making a wall hanging of the phases of the moon. All materials are provided. \nPlease note: attendance for these events are limited; kindly call the library if you cannot make it. Our phone number is 973-383-4810.\nIf registration is filled\, you may call the library to be put on a waitlist. You may also call the library on the day of the event to see if there have been any cancellations.
