This program is for ages 6 and up. \nMarch 12th at 2:00pm: Did you know you can make a harmonica using three household items? Ages 5-10 can learn how and teach the whole family! Learn about changing pitch by sliding straws and feel how vibration turns into sound! \nMarch 23rd at 2:00pm: Attention families! Come in and challenge one another to see who can create a contraption that will prevent an egg from cracking after being dropped out of the 2nd story window! Kids versus parents\, sibling versus sibling\, teams or individuals are welcome to build a safety suit for a hardboiled egg. Lets see who’s egg survives the fall! \nMarch 26th at 10:00am: Kids ages 2-7 can learn about eclipses and create a chalk drawing of the Sun’s corona\, as seen during a total solar eclipse. \nMarch 27th at 7:00pm: This program for teens is more STEAM than just STEM. The ‘A’ stands for art and the teens will be creating art by making a wall hanging of the phases of the moon. Make tunnels\, doorways\, and obstacles for the little bot to navigate. \nMarch 9th at 11am: Before clocks\, watches\, and smart phones\, people used the sun and shadows to see the passage of time. Come to the library and construct your own sun clock! All materials will be provided and if the day is sunny\, you can go outside and test it out right away! This program is for ages 6 and up. \nMarch 12th at 2:00pm: Did you know you can make a harmonica using three household items? Ages 5-10 can learn how and teach the whole family! Learn about changing pitch by sliding straws and feel how vibration turns into sound! \nMarch 23rd at 2:00pm: Attention families! Come in and challenge one another to see who can create a contraption that will prevent an egg from cracking after being dropped out of the 2nd story window! Kids versus parents\, sibling versus sibling\, teams or individuals are welcome to build a safety suit for a hardboiled egg. Lets see who’s egg survives the fall! \nMarch 26th at 10:00am: Kids ages 2-7 can learn about eclipses and create a chalk drawing of the Sun’s corona\, as seen during a total solar eclipse. \nMarch 27th at 7:00pm: This program for teens is more STEAM than just STEM. The ‘A’ stands for art and the teens will be creating art by making a wall hanging of the phases of the moon. SUMMARY:Maker’s Day Tower Challenge at Dorothy Henry Library
DESCRIPTION:Join Miss Savannah at the Dorothy Henry Library for a tower challenge! Participants will be given various items and tasked to build a tower with two goals and a time limit of fifteen minutes: make the tower as tall as you can and use as many items as you can to build it! Points are awarded for height and number of items used with bonus points for teams who use every item in their kit. The tower must be free standing and remain standing long enough to be measured and items counted. Participants can only use items in their kit. Use of any items not in the kit\, such as tape or glue\, will immediately disqualify a team. Teams will sign up for a slot for their attempt\, which will be measured\, counted and photographed with the winner announced on social media that afternoon.\nSpace is limited to six teams of two.
