SUMMARY:Art in the Garden: Drawing with Nature
DESCRIPTION:Draw as a form of care and attention using charcoal and walnut inks to imbue nature into your recordings.\n\n\nCelebrate the close of summer with this hands-on drawing class\, using pencil\, handmade charcoal\, and walnut ink. Together\, we will observe and record plant-life\, as we talk about foraged color techniques that will transition to Fall. This workshop is suitable for all ages. \n\n\n\nPhoto courtesey of artist. ‘Drawing with Nature’ Thurmont Regional Library\, Thurmont\, Maryland\, September 2023 while Artist-in-Residence at Cunningham Falls State Park \nHeader Photos: Courtesey of artist from project: Soil Refuge \nCindy Stockton Moore is a Philadelphia based artist who works with aqueous media to create multimedia animations\, works on paper\, and site-specific installations. Creating ink from natural materials and hyperlocal species\, she connects to the landscape in tactile ways\, cultivating themes of entangled resilience. Installations currently on view (2026) include ’an openness to all things lovely’ at Glen Foerd and ‘Other Absences’ at Eastern State Penitentiary. Her experimental collaborative videos have been screened in festivals and exhibitions nationwide and abroad. \nMore at: www.cindystocktonmoore.com\n\n\n\nGrounded in the garden\, join us to critically and creatively engage in a diversity of artmaking techniques that open us up to deeper dialogue on place\, our relationships to our lived environments\, ecological concerns\, and contemporary culture. Learn meditative and mindful drawing\, printmaking and sculptural techniques\, scientific observation with plant portraiture\, nature-inspired intuitive artmaking and mixed media exploration\, and other various practices from botanical and ecologically-focused contemporary artists to create works of art to nurture your relationship to the garden.\n \nImmerse yourself in the learning garden\, greenhouse\, and across Riverbank State Park’s green roof overlooking the Hudson River to create artwork that is rooted in place and in partnership with plants.\n\n\n\nWorkshops are rain or shine. \nWhen inside the greenhouse and kitchen we will open our double-doors and windows to vent the space and encourage masking and social distancing when in more closed-in spaces. \nAccessibility: Our kitchen/classroom space is wheelchair accessible. With prior planning\, we can add a few small mats onto the pebbled ground of greenhouse to make a small wheel-chair accessible path. Our learning garden has grass paths\, and the entrance is through a gate with a small\, raised entrance. Our tables can be lowered/raised\, and we have several backless benches or stools. Our kitchen is in regular use\, and while we try to cook without peanuts\, much of our cookware is shared and we cannot guarantee a nut-free environment. We have a first aid kit\, and the closest AED is in another building several yards away. Drinking water is made available in refillable pitchers. \nOur closest bathrooms are a building away\, about a one-minute walk. A gender neutral bathroom is also available\, and this is accessible by key which you can request from staff. We are not a scent-free zone\, and because herbalism classes take place here\, cannot guarantee that the site will be clear of any essential oil smells. SUMMARY:Art in the Garden: Pocket Posies
DESCRIPTION:Create a petite and pocket-sided bouquet with a handful of garden blooms for your kitchen table\n\n\nJoin is in the garden among the blooms to create your own pocket full of posies–a minerature bouqet to brighten the smallest of corners. Working with a few select blooms from the garden and from NYC’s flower market\, we’ll create our own pocket-sized floral arrangements\, learning about regenerative flower farming and the power of flowers to convey meaning through symbols and metaphor. \n\n\n\nYour Facilitator: Nicole Smith of A Tribe Called Flowers\nNicole Smith is the founder of A Tribe Called Flowers\, a community-centered project rooted in the belief that flowers—and the joy they bring—should be accessible to everyone. What began as a simple hobby of arranging blooms blossomed into a calling: sharing beauty\, encouragement\, and small moments of brightness with people who need it most.\nNicole describes herself as a flower enthusiast. Through A Tribe Called Flowers\, she creates handcrafted bouquets that are donated\, free of charge\, to local shelters\, rehabilitation centers\, and communities across the city. Each bouquet becomes a gesture of care\, a reminder that someone is thinking of you\, and a spark of joy delivered through flowers. \nAs a nonprofit organization\, all donations to ATCF directly fund the making of these bouquets\, allowing Nicole to continue spreading beauty and connection one arrangement at a time.\n\n\n\nGrounded in the garden\, join us to critically and creatively engage in a diversity of artmaking techniques that open us up to deeper dialogue on place\, our relationships to our lived environments\, ecological concerns\, and contemporary culture. SUMMARY:Féminin Pluriel\, a solo exhibition by artist Pascale Bouchard
DESCRIPTION:Reeves-Reed Arboretum is pleased to present Féminin Pluriel\, a solo exhibition by Québec-based artist Pascale Bouchard. This exhibition highlights Bouchard’s distinctive encaustic practice\, in which pigmented beeswax and heat are used to create richly textured works of art. Rooted in themes of transformation\, memory\, and the symbolic power of the feminine\, her work draws deeply from floral imagery and organic forms\, evoking both the fragility and resilience of the natural world. \nA curated selection of artist-designed objects and garments inspired by the Féminin Pluriel series will be available for purchase\, and a live demonstration of Bouchard’s encaustic technique will be scheduled this fall at the Arboretum. \nThe exhibition will be on view from June 2 through October 31 in the Wisner House. \nGallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday\, 10 am – 4 pm unless closed for a private event. Please check here for updated hours.  \nAll works in this exhibition will be for sale\, and the artist will donate 30% of all sales to the Arboretum.

SUMMARY:Friday Storytime at the Museum
DESCRIPTION:Museum staff and other guest readers share stories\, rhymes and sing-alongs with children ages 2 to 5 years and their caregivers every Friday at 10:00 am. A $5 suggested donation is appreciated. \nLaunched in 2005 by librarian and former Museum Trustee Penny Metsch\, the program is open to all on a first-come\, first-served basis\, and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nDue to weather or staffing shortages\, the program may be canceled without advance notice. To confirm on the day of the event\, please call 201/656-2240\, or contact us at info@hobokenmuseum.org. \nTips and Guidelines for making Storytime successful: \n\nIf your child is crying or having a difficult time\, please take him or her outside so as not to disturb the others and try to come back another time.\nIf your child is not being gentle with another child\, please separate the children and make sure it doesn’t happen again.\nCell phones are fine for taking pictures of your child\, but not for talking on or texting.\nAll the adults are role models for the children. If they see you sitting and listening to the story\, they will too. If they see you talking or texting\, they won’t.\nPlease enjoy your food AFTER Storytime\, not during\, and take any cups or wrappers with you.\n\nThank you for your cooperation!

SUMMARY:CSA Supper Club: Reclaiming Ancestral Cooking
DESCRIPTION:Explore the origins stories of CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture)as we unpack and taste test the foods inside.\n\n\nJoin us in the garden and around the table to explore how we can reclaim ancestral cooking by recovering the principles that shaped our ancestors’ relationship with food rather than simply recreating historical recipes. Participants will examine how traditional practices such as cooking with the senses\, eating seasonally and locally\, and preparing food with intention can be integrated with modern nutritional knowledge to create a more connected and nourishing approach to cooking. Together\, we will explore what it truly means to eat in relationship with the land\, the seasons\, and the people we feed\, while gaining practical ways to apply these ideas in everyday life.\n\n\n\nYour Facilitator: \nJournei Bimwala is a clinical herbalist\, foraging practitioner\, nutrition health coach\, and educator dedicated to helping people build meaningful relationships with the natural world through food and plants. Drawing from her experience in foraging\, herbal medicine\, and community education\, she teaches participants how to reconnect with the landscapes they inhabit by making what is unknown known and what is known accessible. Her work weaves together traditional ecological knowledge\, modern nutritional understanding\, and cultural wisdom to inspire people to see food not only as nourishment\, but as a pathway to health\, connection\, and stewardship.\n\n\n\nCooking\, sharing\, and storytelling through the harvest of the season. \nHistory\, place\, and imagination are all deeply rooted in what and how we grow and eat. \nEach Friday evening\, this supper club gathers around ingredients of the week–produce grown in the garden and food from our local CSA. A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is rooted in the idea that community members share in the risks and rewards of farming. By committing to a season’s harvest\, we support farmers through the lands’ and our current food system’s uncertainties and in return\, receive food that is grown in integrity and largely outside of the current extractive and exploitive\, harmful food systems. \nTogether\, we’ll gather to deepen our relationships with the sources of our food and our empathy for the people’s whose hands that food has passed through. \nThrough collaborative cooking\, recipe-sharing\, and conversations around the table\, we explore the cultural\, ecological\, and personal dimensions of food. Drawing inspiration from our kitchen’s stories\, cookbooks\, and the week’s harvest\, we’ll discover how the simple act of preparing and sharing a meal can connect us more deeply to land-workers\, food-workers\, and to the land theirself. \nThis is a free drop-in program. Come to every class or come to one or two that you are available for.\n\n\n\nWorkshops are rain or shine.

Fairy attire is welcome! \nTickets are $5 per person/$20 per family. \n \n“Celebrating the Mediterranean’s Lively Arts” \nwww.MosaicDanceTheaterCo.org \nMosaic Dance Theater Company (MDTC) is dedicated to the dance and folkloric traditions of the Mediterranean — North Africa\, the Middle East\, and southern Europe — creating dance\, theater\, and educational programs which celebrate the rich diversity of cultures of this region. The dances and music\, the stories and myths\, and the history and legends of this fascinating area form the wellspring of inspiration for MDTC’s creative vision. \nTouring nationally to performing arts venues\, universities\, schools\, and community organizations\, MDTC is known for its artistry and authenticity\, not only in creating the original works that comprise its repertory\, but also in faithfully researching their origins to ensure cultural integrity. The Company has been presented under the auspices of Lincoln Center’s “Meet the Artist” Program\, Young Audiences of New Jersey/Eastern Pennsylvania\, Arts Horizons\, and is on the roster of Arts-in-Education artists for Hartford Performs (CT) and Morris Arts (NJ). MDTC is the recipient of the 2013 Sunshine Award for its contribution to the performing arts\, recognized by NARAS (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences) and the United Nations. \nIn a world engulfed by popular culture\, MDTC embraces the historical treasures of the past\, the ways of tradition\, and the sensibilities of the present in its goal to celebrate the remarkable varieties and similarities of the Mediterranean cultures. \nFounded in 2003 by Producing Artistic Director Morgiana Celeste Varricchio\, MDTC evolved out of dance and theater productions originally developed by Ms. Varricchio which began touring in 1992 and are now a part of MDTC’s repertory. Samara Adell\, MDTC’s Choreographer and Artistic Director for Dance\, began her collaboration with Ms. Varricchio in 2000\, and since the Company’s inception\, it has premiered its original dance works to critical acclaim.
