Featuring a dynamic panel of professional experts\, learn about the unexpected industries\, institutions\, and individuals that connect New York to the cosmos\, revealing how deeply space is woven into everyday life. With engaging stories and big-picture thinking\, “Space Is New York” celebrates the state’s growing role in the space economy and invites audiences of all ages to discover how they can be part of it. \nAdditionally\, explore “SVA + NASA: The Artemis II / Earthrise Poster Project\,” an exhibition of posters created by students at the School of Visual Arts (SVA)\, in collaboration with the NASA Office of STEM Engagement at the Goddard Institute for Space Studies. The exhibition features 24 works creatively interpreting the goals and values of NASA’s recent Artemis II mission\, which sent four astronauts around the Moon—the next step toward a sustained human presence there\, and\, further into the future\, crewed missions to Mars. SUMMARY:Art Exhibit: Chromatic Terrain by Greg Navratil
DESCRIPTION:Reeves-Reed Arboretum is pleased to present Chromatic Terrain: Contemporary Landscapes by Greg Navratil\, an immersive exhibition showcasing works by Oregon-based painter Greg Navratil. Known for his rich and vibrant acrylic paintings that balance abstraction with perceptual realism\, Navratil’s art captures the essence of the natural world with expressive paint strokes that transcend direct representation.  \nBased in a renovated historic schoolhouse studio near Seaside\, Oregon\, set amid woods and gardens that the artist likens to his own “Giverny”\, Navratil pushes the potential of color and form. His process always begins in nature: he ventures into lush landscapes\, photographing scenes that later become the basis of his paintings. Up close\, brushstrokes may seem spontaneous\, but from a distance the eye assembles familiar forms of trees\, leaves\, and flowers. The result is a series of dynamic and vivid compositions that balance abstraction and realism.  \nChromatic Terrain features a captivating group of Navratil’s works that explore color and pattern in nature\, reflecting the Arboretum’s evolving garden palette as the grounds transition from winter dormancy into spring. \nThe exhibition will be on view through May 10\, 2026. A reception will be held on February 8th from 11 am – 12:30 pm\, with Curator Frank Juliano representing the artist to talk about his works. This event is free and open to the public. Register here to attend the reception.  \nGallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday\, 10 am – 4 pm unless closed for a private event. Please check here for updated hours.  \nAll works are for sale\, and the artist generously agrees to donate 30% of each sale to the Arboretum.   \nNotice: Due to ongoing construction for the Path for All project\, Arboretum parking will be unavailable Monday through Friday\, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Please use street parking during these hours. Handicap parking will remain available. \n

SUMMARY:Spring Photography Walk
DESCRIPTION:Spring Photography Walk\n\n\nJoin fine arts photographer Heidi Fuhrman on the 2025 Sunday Morning Spring Photo Walk. Heidi has generously supported NYS Parks by guiding hundreds of photo enthusiasts on walks at RSPP for 10+ years — one walk per season\, to celebrate the unique textures and colors of each season. \nHeidi’s stunning images have been featured in travel articles and magazines\, as well as many private and public galleries\, libraries and museums in the Hudson Valley and NYC\, including a solo exhibit at the New York Hall of Science featuring 40+ large-scale photographs of water. You will see her images often in NYS Parks and RSPP web and print publications. Trained as a lawyer\, Heidi displays attention to detail and nuance in her photography. As a long-distance runner\, she also uses her cell phone to photograph sunrises and wildlife deep in the woods. \nAs always\, Heidi will not burden the walk with an instructional class; rather\, she will help point out photographic opportunities and approaches during an energetic 2-hour jaunt through our carriage trails in search of both broad vistas and close-ups. Free and open to all ages. Meet at the Park’s Main Office. Any camera is fine\, even a cell phone. Space is limited. If you sign up & cannot attend\, please promptly advise the Park office so those on the waitlist can participate. \nPLEASE NOTE: THIS HIKE IS AT ROCKWOOD HALL\, DO NOT GO TO THE MAIN PARK ENTRANCE! \nThe Rockwood Hall parking lot is on Kendal Way at the west end of route 117\, just after the intersection of Phelps and Regeneron. If the lot is full\, you may park in the Phelps garage (free). Gather at the kiosk at the top of the hill. \nCost: Free \nParking: $6 per vehicle. \nIn case of bad weather\, the program may be canceled or postponed; you will be notified via email by 5 pm the day before. \nMax: 20 people. \nPhoto courtesy of Heidi Fuhrman
