SUMMARY:Recipes & Rituals for Community Care: Bathing in the Essence of the Garden
DESCRIPTION:Slow down\, breathe\, allow your senses to open\, listen to the messages from nature.\n\n\nJoin us with certified Forest Therapy Guide Lori Klamner to explore how the concept of bathing in the essence of the forest and forest bathing can be integrated right here in our community garden spaces in our very urban landscapes. \nTogether\, we’ll take a slow walk with invitations to notice the shapes of leaves\, moving our hands to outline the shapes that call to us\, and noticing how it feels for our feet to kiss the earth. Then\, we’ll find a sit spot and allow our minds to focus on parts of the garden that speak to us. After each section of these invitations\, we will have a sharing circle and tea made from foraged and harvesed plants to practice our attention and reflection in our shared learning garden. \n\n\nYour Facilitator: \nLori Klamner is a climate activist and bodywork therapist. A native New Yorker\, she has found the Urban Forest to be a truly healing and restorative place. She trained to become a Certified Forest Therapist in 2021\, and specializes in group walks in urban parks.\n\n\n\n\nWhat does it mean to heal in community? What does it feel like to extend care—to ourselves\, ecologies\, and our shared earth? \nThis weekly series explores the role of plants in supporting both personal and communal well-being through herbal arts\, folk remedies\, somatic movement\, meditative wildcrafting\, and shared ritual. Participants are guided by guest herbalists\, healing artists\, and wellness practitioners to co-create a toolkit that not only resources individuals in caring for themselves\, but stretches our imagination and capacity to care for the collective and our shared earth. \nRecipes and Rituals for Community Care is rooted in reciprocity with land\, ancestral knowledge\, and the rhythms of the seasons.\n\n\n\nWorkshops are rain or shine. \nAccessibility: Our kitchen/classroom space is wheelchair accessible. With prior planning\, we can add a few small mats onto the pebbled ground of greenhouse to make a small wheel-chair accessible path. Our learning garden has grass paths\, and the entrance is through a gate with a small\, raised entrance. Our tables can be lowered/raised\, and we have several backless benches or stools. Our kitchen is in regular use\, and while we try to cook without peanuts\, much of our cookware is shared and we cannot guarantee a nut-free environment. We have a first aid kit\, and the closest AED is in another building several yards away. Drinking water is made available in refillable pitchers. \nWhen inside the greenhouse and kitchen we will open our double-doors and windows to vent the space and encourage masking and social distancing when in more closed-in spaces. \nOur closest bathrooms are a building away\, about a one-minute walk. A gender neutral bathroom is also available\, and this is accessible by key which you can request from staff. We are not a scent-free zone\, and because herbalism classes take place here\, cannot guarantee that the site will be clear of any essential oil smells. If you have needs not addressed here\, please reach out to Mallory Craig at mcraig@thehort.org.

SUMMARY:Féminin Pluriel\, a solo exhibition by artist Pascale Bouchard
DESCRIPTION:Reeves-Reed Arboretum is pleased to present Féminin Pluriel\, a solo exhibition by Québec-based artist Pascale Bouchard. This exhibition highlights Bouchard’s distinctive encaustic practice\, in which pigmented beeswax and heat are used to create richly textured works of art. Rooted in themes of transformation\, memory\, and the symbolic power of the feminine\, her work draws deeply from floral imagery and organic forms\, evoking both the fragility and resilience of the natural world. \nA curated selection of artist-designed objects and garments inspired by the Féminin Pluriel series will be available for purchase\, and a live demonstration of Bouchard’s encaustic technique will be scheduled this fall at the Arboretum. \nThe exhibition will be on view from June 2 through October 31 in the Wisner House. \nGallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday\, 10 am – 4 pm unless closed for a private event. Please check here for updated hours.  \nAll works in this exhibition will be for sale\, and the artist will donate 30% of all sales to the Arboretum.

SUMMARY:Friday Storytime at the Museum
DESCRIPTION:Museum staff and other guest readers share stories\, rhymes and sing-alongs with children ages 2 to 5 years and their caregivers every Friday at 10:00 am. A $5 suggested donation is appreciated. \nLaunched in 2005 by librarian and former Museum Trustee Penny Metsch\, the program is open to all on a first-come\, first-served basis\, and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nDue to weather or staffing shortages\, the program may be canceled without advance notice. To confirm on the day of the event\, please call 201/656-2240\, or contact us at info@hobokenmuseum.org. \nTips and Guidelines for making Storytime successful: \n\nIf your child is crying or having a difficult time\, please take him or her outside so as not to disturb the others and try to come back another time.\nIf your child is not being gentle with another child\, please separate the children and make sure it doesn’t happen again.\nCell phones are fine for taking pictures of your child\, but not for talking on or texting.\nAll the adults are role models for the children. If they see you sitting and listening to the story\, they will too. If they see you talking or texting\, they won’t.\nPlease enjoy your food AFTER Storytime\, not during\, and take any cups or wrappers with you.\n\nThank you for your cooperation!

SUMMARY:CSA Supper Club: Reclaiming Ancestral Cooking - Beyond the Recipe
DESCRIPTION:Explore the origins stories of CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture)as we unpack and taste test the foods inside.\n\n\nJoin us in the garden and around the table to explore what it truly means to reclaim ancestral cooking by looking beyond traditional recipes and focusing on the principles that guided our ancestors’ relationship with food. Participants will examine how observation\, adaptability\, seasonality\, resourcefulness\, and intention shaped the way people cooked across cultures\, and how these same principles can be applied in modern kitchens. Through discussion and reflection\, the workshop encourages participants to rethink cooking as a meaningful practice that connects us to our bodies\, our communities\, and the changing world around us. \n\n\n\nYour Facilitator: \nJournei Bimwala is a clinical herbalist\, foraging practitioner\, nutrition health coach\, and educator dedicated to helping people build meaningful relationships with the natural world through food and plants. Drawing from her experience in foraging\, herbal medicine\, and community education\, she teaches participants how to reconnect with the landscapes they inhabit by making what is unknown known and what is known accessible. Her work weaves together traditional ecological knowledge\, modern nutritional understanding\, and cultural wisdom to inspire people to see food not only as nourishment\, but as a pathway to health\, connection\, and stewardship.\n\n\n\nCooking\, sharing\, and storytelling through the harvest of the season. \nHistory\, place\, and imagination are all deeply rooted in what and how we grow and eat. \nEach Friday evening\, this supper club gathers around ingredients of the week–produce grown in the garden and food from our local CSA. A CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is rooted in the idea that community members share in the risks and rewards of farming. By committing to a season’s harvest\, we support farmers through the lands’ and our current food system’s uncertainties and in return\, receive food that is grown in integrity and largely outside of the current extractive and exploitive\, harmful food systems. \nTogether\, we’ll gather to deepen our relationships with the sources of our food and our empathy for the people’s whose hands that food has passed through. \nThrough collaborative cooking\, recipe-sharing\, and conversations around the table\, we explore the cultural\, ecological\, and personal dimensions of food. Drawing inspiration from our kitchen’s stories\, cookbooks\, and the week’s harvest\, we’ll discover how the simple act of preparing and sharing a meal can connect us more deeply to land-workers\, food-workers\, and to the land theirself. \nThis is a free drop-in program. Come to every class or come to one or two that you are available for.\n\n\n\nWorkshops are rain or shine.
