SUMMARY:Gardens on the Hill & Zone IV GCA Artist Showcase
DESCRIPTION:Reeves-Reed Arboretum is excited to announce its first art exhibition of 2025\, Gardens on the Hill. This eclectic show brings together a curated selection of works from artists across the United States\, including celebrated talents from New Jersey. Each artist offers a unique lens through which the garden\, in all its diversity\, is interpreted. This exhibition mirrors the distinctive charm of Reeves-Reed Arboretum\, where each garden zone thrives with its own essence. Through varied techniques and styles\, these artists imbue their creations with the vibrancy of nature\, ultimately coming together in a collective showcase that honors the garden as both a personal sanctuary and a shared source of beauty and inspiration. \nGardens on the Hill features artists Pamela Casper\, Sheila Fox\, Valerie Leuchs\, Paige Lindsey\, Tracey Luckner\, Carolyn McKibbin\, Alyssa Watters\, Marilyn Foehrenbach Wirtz\, and Kelly Worman. Additionally\, a showcase of works by twelve artists from the Zone IV chapter of the Garden Club of America will be exhibited\, each inspired by two of the Arboretum’s iconic features: the rose garden and the daffodil bowl. Works range in media including oils\, watercolors\, ceramics\, and quilts. Artists’ interpretations of the garden vary in style from abstract to hyper-realistic. All works are for sale\, and the artists will generously donate 30% of each sale back to the Arboretum. \nThis exhibition is on display from February 11 – May 23. \nThe public is invited to an opening reception on February 22\, 2025 from 2 pm – 4 pm. Click here to register. \nGallery Hours are Tuesday through Sunday 10 am – 4 pm except when closed for private events. Click here to confirm gallery hours. \nThis exhibition corresponds with the Garden Club of America Zone IV Flower Show\, hosted by the Summit Garden Club\, on Wednesday\, May 21\, 2025. \nQuestions about this exhibition can be directed to Arboretum Office Manager Marilyn Foehrenbach at m.foehrenbach@reeves-reedarboretum.org.

SUMMARY: [IF…] Iterative Fictions
DESCRIPTION:@ \n \n \n\n\nJoin us for an evening with artist Eto Otitigbe as he presents [IF…] (Iterative Fictions)\, a creative research project that draws on materials from the Weeksville Heritage Center archives to imagine stories of Black life\, past and future. “Iterative fiction” refers to a narrative process that shifts and expands over time\, inviting multiple perspectives. Through this approach\, [IF…] traces\, recreates\, and reactivates fragmented artifacts for future use. \nThis performance blends sculpture\, sound\, and visual media to reimagine the Black Archive and open new pathways for understanding history. \nOtitigbe is joined by collaborators Zane Rodulfo and Dakota Ray. Rodulfo composed an original soundscape using interviews from the Weeksville Lost Jazz Shrines of Brooklyn\, a project developed by Weeksville’s former research team that highlights Central Brooklyn’s jazz legacy. Ray contributes visual projections that combine vintage cartoons\, blaxploitation films\, and images from the Golden Legacy illustrated history series\, creating a layered and visually striking atmosphere. \nFeatured Artists and Collaborators \nEto Otitigbe is a polymedia artist whose interdisciplinary practice spans sculpture\, public art\, performance\, installation\, and community engagement. His public works include installations at Socrates Sculpture Park and Randall’s Island Park\, as well as a key role on the design team for the Memorial to Enslaved Laborers at UVA. Recent projects include Peaceful Journey (Mt. Vernon\, NY)\, a permanent tribute to Heavy D\, and Invasive Species (Philadelphia\, PA)\, a mixed reality work exploring plant life and migration. \nOtitigbe has received fellowships and awards from the National Arts Club\, CEC Artslink\, and the Smithsonian\, where he researched Urhobo language and African material culture. He is an Associate Professor of Sculpture at Brooklyn College and holds degrees from MIT\, Stanford\, and the University of Plymouth. He is also the founder of eo Studio\, a 2023 Creative Capital Awardee focused on community-driven public art \nZane Rodulfo is a Trinidadian drummer and composer based in New York City. Trained in both Jazz Performance and Ethnomusicology at Oberlin Conservatory\, he holds a graduate degree in Jazz Studies from NYU. Rodulfo has performed at venues including Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Blue Note and has opened for legends such as Stevie Wonder and Roy Ayers. \nHis work spans performance\, composition\, and sound installation\, with commissions from the Guggenheim Museum\, Whitney Museum\, Brooklyn Arts Council\, and more. His piece Around the Circle was featured in the Guggenheim’s Vasily Kandinsky exhibition (2021–2022) alongside his sound sculpture Abandoned Orchestra. Dakota Ray is a Brooklyn-based multimedia artist who learned very early that she could use art as a way of connection and expression. Through the use of comic art\, sculpture\, digital art\, and drawing\, many of her works center around evoking feelings of nostalgia\, particularly around food. Dakota earned an A.A.S. (Honors) in Art Foundations-Studio Art with a concentration in Sculpture from CUNY BMCC in Spring 2023 and is currently a Senior at CUNY Brooklyn College\, on track to receive a BA in Art\, with a minor in Theater Production in May 2025. Dakota’s future goal is to create installations\, public art\, and scenic designs that are interactive and immersive. \n\nRSVP HERE\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n \n Add to calendar \n\n\n\n \n Google Calendar \n \n\n \n iCalendar \n \n\n \n Outlook 365 \n \n\n \n Outlook Live

SUMMARY:Friday Storytime at the Museum
DESCRIPTION:Museum staff and other guest readers share stories\, rhymes and sing-alongs with children ages 2 to 5 years and their caregivers every Friday at 10:00 am. A $5 suggested donation is appreciated. \nLaunched in 2005 by librarian and former Museum Trustee Penny Metsch\, the program is open to all on a first-come\, first-served basis\, and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \nDue to weather or staffing shortages\, the program may be canceled without advance notice. To confirm on the day of the event\, please call 201/656-2240\, or contact us at info@hobokenmuseum.org. \nTips and Guidelines for making Storytime successful: \n\nIf your child is crying or having a difficult time\, please take him or her outside so as not to disturb the others and try to come back another time.\nIf your child is not being gentle with another child\, please separate the children and make sure it doesn’t happen again.\nCell phones are fine for taking pictures of your child\, but not for talking on or texting.\nAll the adults are role models for the children. If they see you sitting and listening to the story\, they will too. If they see you talking or texting\, they won’t.\nPlease enjoy your food AFTER Storytime\, not during\, and take any cups or wrappers with you.\n\nThank you for your cooperation!
