Enjoy the family-friendly celebration of the Hindu Festival of Lights at the Prospect Park Boathouse. Diwali symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness\, good over evil\, and knowledge over ignorance. \nIn Prospect Park\, join the celebration by decorating clay with acrylic colors\, and create flower garlands\, called har-mala\, and honor the rich artisanal textiles and attire of India. Plus\, create Rangoli designs with flower petals and enjoy a performance with Rhythm Tolee\, an award winning New York City based Punjabi band. Rhythm Tolee performs a wide variety of songs by mixing Punjabi Folk and Sufi music with hip tunes. \nRSVP to let us know that you’re joining! \nDiwali is associated with Rama in celebration of his return to his kingdom in Ayodhya with his wife Sita and his brother Lakshmana after defeating the demon king\, Ravana. Diwali is also associated with Lakshmi\, the goddess of prosperity\, and with the god\, Ganesha. \nAcross the globe\, Diwali is celebrated by illuminating homes\, temples and workspaces with diyas (oil lamps). Diwali is traditionally also marked with light celebrations as well as the decoration of floors with rangoli designs. Food is a major focus with families partaking in feasts and sharing sweets and also for communities and associations\, particularly those in urban areas\, that organize activities\, events and gatherings. \nSponsors: Diwali is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature\, administered by Citylore NY\, and Indian Dance Arts Educator\, Aeilushi Mistry and in collaboration with Prospect Park Alliance. Rhythm Tolee is joined by Sound by Matthew Barba\, Stage Manager Roger Rothstein\, Photographer Erik Almeida\, and Friends of Diwali.

SUMMARY:Forest Bathing Sensory Walk & Foraged Tea
DESCRIPTION:‘Bathe’ in the forest atmosphere using your senses\, mindfulness and short guided meditations\n\n\nThe practice of forest bathing means to immerse oneself in the forest and soak in the atmosphere through the senses. Today’s walk at an easy pace will focus on connecting to nature through mindfulness\, as we explore our senses and the present moment through short\, guided\, meditations and breathing exercises in the forest. Through this practice\, we aim to deepen our connection to our mind\, our body\, and the life around us in nature. \nAt the end of our walk\, we’ll sample a tea made from pine and spruce needles foraged on the Weis property\, with some seasonal variations throughout the year. This tea is meant to show our gratitude and appreciation and is a way of tasting and taking in the land to further connect to it. \nForest bathing has been shown to help decrease stress levels and anxiety\, and helps improve the immune system and symptoms of depression\, to name a few benefits. \nCome explore a new way of walking through the forest! \n\nLed by Lead Educator Lauren Lynch.\nOpen to ages 13 and up.\nRefundable with 2 week’s notice. In case of rain\, you will be notified and the program will be rescheduled.\nOutdoor program; please dress accordingly.\nNo dogs please.\nParking is available in the outer lot on Snake Den Rd\, or you may drive in through the gate and park near the main brick building.
