We will bird the Weeksville Center grounds while discussing and identifying backyard birds and migratory species. Indigo will discuss the community of Black birders\, the importance of birding\, and our impact on the broader birding culture. \nThe route includes paved paths\, gravel\, grass\, and slight inclines. The route covers approximately 2 acres\, with opportunities to rest and bathroom access. The route is flexible based on need. \n3:30pm – Designing Identity: Jewelry\, Culture & Storytelling with Jam + Rico  \n\nJoin Jam+Rico founder Lisette Scott for a hands-on jewelry-making workshop inspired by the Caribbean and African Diaspora. Explore how adornment can carry culture\, memory\, and personal meaning\, then create your own necklace or bracelet using beads\, charms\, and natural materials. \nNo experience needed. All materials are provided\, and everyone will leave with a one-of-a-kind piece to take home. \nONGOING \nChess on the Lawn with Rooklyn and KnightShiftChess \n\nPull up a chair and play a round of chess throughout the afternoon with Veronica Lorya of Rooklyn and Bed-Stuy native and National Chess Master James Black of KnightShiftChess. All ages and experience levels are welcome\, whether you’re looking for a casual game or want to learn the basics. \nNew to chess? She is the founder of Juju Bae\, a multimedia Black-centric resource that seeks to demystify traditional spirituality through storytelling and lighthearted conversations with twenty-first-century relevance. She is the host of the award-winning show A Little Juju podcast\, which encourages people of the Diaspora to find a home in Africana spiritual spaces and thought. She starred in the 2023 Hulu paranormal docuseries Living for the Dead\, produced by Kristen Stewart. Juju is a sought-after spiritual teacher and holds a BA in Psychology from Spelman College. \nSHAN Wallace \n\nSHAN Wallace (b. 1991) is a nomadic\, award-winning interdisciplinary artist\, archivist\, and image-maker from Baltimore\, MD. Her practice is rooted in a wide range of image-making techniques. Wallace investigates how images shift\, degrade\, and transform as they move between mediums.
