Decorated trees will be featured at our Holiday Open House\, where visitors can vote for their favorites. \nOn Sunday\, December 6\, 2026\, we will be holding our annual Holiday Open House\, and we invite YOU to help make it a success! \nSTEP 1: Sign up to sponsor and decorate a tree! RRA will provide and set up the trees\, you just need the decorations. The deadline to register is December 1. We will have a limited number of trees\, so don’t wait to sign up. \nSTEP 2: Decorate! Gather your family\, friends\, or colleagues and come to the Arboretum on Saturday\, December 5\, 10 am – 2 pm to create your display. Be creative\, there will be prizes! \nSTEP 3: Return on Sunday\, December 6 with your two complimentary tickets for the Holiday Open House to enjoy the fun! Sip ‘n Shop at our Holiday Market for unique gifts\, holiday décor\, delicious treats\, and more! Explore the Winter Story Walk\, Candy Cane Lane\, and make a Winter Craft. Enjoy Live Holiday Carolers and of course touring the trees and voting for your favorite one! Tickets for the Holiday Open House are $10 for adults\, children under 12 are free. \nSTEP 4: After the event\, you are welcome to take your tree home or remove the decorations and leave it on the Arboretum grounds. We can use the trees to make mulch or use the branches to protect our beds from frost during the winter months. Details in FAQ below. \nAnswers to frequently asked questions: \n\nTrees are approximately 5-6 feet tall and are in stands. If you choose to string lights\, please make sure they are battery operated since electricity is not available on the grounds.\nIt is recommended that ornaments be able to withstand rain/snow and are secure in case of windy conditions.\nBalloons and candles are not permitted.\nAdditional items/props can be placed under or near your tree.\nGet creative! Some previous themes have included: Wordle\, Goats\, Sports\, Cooking\, etc.\nEach tree will have an assigned number\, the title of your tree\, and the name of your group/business.\nYou will receive further details about the decorating sessions via email a few days before 12/5.\nFirst and second place prizes will be awarded. DESCRIPTION:(for adults) \nFrom time immemorial humans have observed the Winter Solstice as a special day on the calendar; the day when the hemispheric pole is at its further point from the Sun.  Cultures around the world mark this auspicious ‘turning towards the light’ with feast and celebration\, and in quiet reflection.  The Winter Solstice will occur on December 21st as the Sun\, having reached its further point from us\, begins its long journey back providing us with a little more of its precious light each day. \nWhat better way to prepare for this important passage than by taking a pause to reflect as you deepen your nature connection with a Forest Bathing walk at the Arboretum.  Limited availability\, so book your place soon at this very special event. \nA few tips from Rich to make your walk more comfortable: \n\nThe walk will last for about 2.5 hours. We will be moving slowly and using our senses to connect with nature so this will not be an athletic walk.\nPlease dress in layers so you can be comfortable with temperature changes.\nIf you wish\, you can bring sunscreen\, bug spray\, and/or water.\nRich will provide small mats to use when sitting.\nThe walk will be postponed in the event of inclement weather.\n\nRich Collins is a Certified Guide for the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs (ANFT)\, based in Morristown & Barnegat Light\, New Jersey.  His company\, Friendly Territory\, specializes in Nature & Forest Therapy walks and retreats.
