SUMMARY:Arboretum Explorers – Passaic River Essex County Kayak Tour – SOLD OUT
DESCRIPTION:(ages 16 and up) \nThe Passaic River meanders through some of the busiest sections of New Jersey. You wouldn’t know it here though. Its slow current and flood prone waters mean many are reluctant to build close to its banks\, allowing nature to thrive. Hawks\, herons\, egrets and turtles are plentiful along the wooded shores of this\, NJ’s longest\, river. \nLed by an ACA (American Canoe Association) certified kayak instructor from Kayak East\, this tour is rated “Easy” meaning no experience is necessary. This tour is great for paddlers of any skill level. Photographers\, bird watchers and anyone who wants to get outside and enjoy nature will also love it! Registration is required. \nPlan to meet at the Essex County Nature Center’s outside lot in Roseland at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour for boat fit. SUMMARY:Plein Air Painting Workshop
DESCRIPTION:(adults and teens 16 yrs+) \nExperience the joy of painting outdoors at Reeves-Reed Arboretum in this plein air painting workshop led by artist Eric Alexander Santoli. Surrounded by the rich colors and textures of late summer transitioning into early fall\, participants will work directly from the landscape\, capturing the beauty\, atmosphere\, and changing gardens of the Arboretum. \nThe workshop will focus on rapid\, alla prima (one-sitting) painting techniques\, helping artists interpret the landscape efficiently while responding to shifting light and weather conditions. Instruction will emphasize developing strong compositions\, effective use of color theory\, and confident decision-making when working outdoors. \nThis special program follows Reeves-Reed Arboretum’s featured appearance in an episode of Eric’s public television series\, Eric En Plein Air\, which aired earlier this summer. \nOpen to all experience levels. All watercolor supplies are included; however\, participants are welcome to bring their own materials and mediums if they prefer. Participants are encouraged to bring a camping chair with a cup holder and an easel\, if they have one. \nIn the case of inclement weather\, the program will be postponed to a rain date on Saturday\, September 26\, from 11 am–1 pm. Studies have shown that yoga\, spending time in nature\, and interacting with friendly animals can help reduce blood pressure\, stress\, and anxiety. What better way to start the weekend! \nThe class will meet in the Azalea Garden.
