DESCRIPTION:Reeves-Reed Arboretum is pleased to present Féminin Pluriel\, a solo exhibition by Québec-based artist Pascale Bouchard. This exhibition highlights Bouchard’s distinctive encaustic practice\, in which pigmented beeswax and heat are used to create richly textured works of art. Rooted in themes of transformation\, memory\, and the symbolic power of the feminine\, her work draws deeply from floral imagery and organic forms\, evoking both the fragility and resilience of the natural world. \nA curated selection of artist-designed objects and garments inspired by the Féminin Pluriel series will be available for purchase\, and a live demonstration of Bouchard’s encaustic technique will be scheduled this fall at the Arboretum. \nThe exhibition will be on view from June 2 through October 31 in the Wisner House. \nGallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday\, 10 am – 4 pm unless closed for a private event. Please check here for updated hours.  \nAll works in this exhibition will be for sale\, and the artist will donate 30% of all sales to the Arboretum.

She facilitates soundbowl mindfulness meditation events to diverse communities across NYC. She utilizes various singing bowls and other instruments to create sound frequencies to induce a relaxing and healing atmosphere. She will be hosting future meditation and tea ceremony events to create powerful meditative experiences.\n\n\n\n\nWhat does it mean to heal in community? What does it feel like when we extend care to ourselves and the collective? How do plants and our local ecologies care for us? How can we care for the plants and local ecologies in return?\n \nWeave in rituals and recipes into your own self-care and community care practices through weekly explorations in herbal arts\, somatic movement in the greenhouse and garden\, folk remedies\, and other wild-crafts and meditative activities that foster a deeper connection to plants to care for the body\, mental health\, and the people you move with. \n \nEach week\, be guided by a guest herbalist\, healing artist\, or wellness practitioner who will help you create your own toolkit and apothecary for self and communal care.\n\n\n\nWorkshops are rain or shine. \nAccessibility: Our kitchen/classroom space is wheelchair accessible. With prior planning\, we can add a few small mats onto the pebbled ground of greenhouse to make a small wheel-chair accessible path. Our learning garden has grass paths\, and the entrance is through a gate with a small\, raised entrance. Our tables can be lowered/raised\, and we have several backless benches or stools. Our kitchen is in regular use\, and while we try to cook without peanuts\, much of our cookware is shared and we cannot guarantee a nut-free environment. We have a first aid kit\, and the closest AED is in another building several yards away. Drinking water is made available in refillable pitchers. \nWhen inside the greenhouse and kitchen we will open our double-doors and windows to vent the space and encourage masking and social distancing when in more closed-in spaces. \nOur closest bathrooms are a building away\, about a one-minute walk. A gender neutral bathroom is also available\, and this is accessible by key which you can request from staff. We are not a scent-free zone\, and because herbalism classes take place here\, cannot guarantee that the site will be clear of any essential oil smells. DESCRIPTION:@ 			\n			\n							 \n\n\n\nOn June 4\, Black & Free: Pleasure Histories comes to Weeksville Heritage Center for an evening of film and live performance honoring Black queer and trans legacies of pleasure that are too often excluded from dominant narratives. \nAs one of the nation’s earliest free Black communities\, Weeksville offers a space to reflect on the present through histories of self-determination. Through moving image\, storytelling\, and burlesque\, the evening highlights those who expanded the boundaries of gender\, sexuality\, and embodiment in New York and beyond. \nThe program features a screening of Mary of Ill Fame (2020–21) by Tourmaline\, a fictional narrative grounded in the life of Mary Jones\, a Black trans woman and sex worker in 1830s New York. The screening is paired with excerpts from We Been Here\, a showcase honoring Black burlesque legends Sahji (1940s) and Jean Idelle (1950s–60s)\, alongside live performances by two of New York’s leading Black burlesque artists\, Queerly Femmetastic and Aurora Boobrealis. \nThis event was curated by Kirya Traber\, and produced by Kelly Greenlight. \nFilm and Performance Series Descriptions \nMary of Ill Fame (2020–2021) shapes a fictional story around Mary Jones (played by Rowin Amone)\, a Black trans woman and sex worker who was part of a community of “girls of ill fame” and eventually incarcerated in the 1830s for stealing a man’s wallet. Mary of Ill Fame imagines Jones in Seneca Village\, an autonomous New York City community of free Black and Irish immigrants located on the land occupied today by Central Park. Splicing between images of Jones in brutal confinement and in a gracious\, picturesque Seneca Village home\, Tourmaline builds a fantasy space of power\, freedom\, and pleasure that the actual Jones deserved.  \nRuntime: 17min 14sec \nWe Been Here:  \nHot-cha girls. SUMMARY:Friday Woodland Restoration Session
DESCRIPTION:(age 14+\, age 12-13 with adult) \nJoin Our Horticulture Team! \nVolunteers will reestablish existing trails\, plant native trees\, identify and remove invasives\, as well as other tasks. No experience is necessary. \nGround Force Sessions: \n\n\nFridays\, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM \n\n\nWhat to Bring & Wear: \n\n\nLong pants\, long socks\, and sturdy closed-toe shoes \n\n\nInsect repellent\, sunscreen\, and a refillable water bottle \n\n\nRain gear if light rain is expected—we work in drizzle! \n\n\nRegistration is required to receive updates in case of cancellations or schedule changes. Please register at least 24 hours before each session. \nWe will supply gloves as well as all other tools and materials. For your safety\, all tools and gloves are washed and sanitized. Please meet at the barn in our parking lot. If the session is cancelled due to inclement weather or any other reason\, we will contact you. First-time volunteers must bring a completed Volunteer Waiver form to their first volunteer session. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegister here.
