DESCRIPTION:Ring in the New Year with birding at our historic Rockwood Hall site overlooking the Hudson River!\n\n\nStart off your New Year with an invigorating 1.5 mile walk along the Hudson River across the beautiful landscape of Rockwood Hall\, guided by Larry Trachtenberg of the Saw Mill River Audubon Society.  \nWe will keep an eye out for winter birds including both bald eagles and red-tailed hawks often seen in this part of the Preserve. \nDress warmly since it’s always colder by the Hudson and bring binoculars if you have them. \nNo pets please.  \nThis hike is at Rockwood Hall\, DO NOT go to the main Preserve entrance. Gather at the Rockwood Hall parking lot on Kendal Way at the west end of route 117\, just after the intersection of Phelps and Regeneron. If the lot is full\, you may park in the Phelps Hospital garage (free). \nMax: 40 people. Suitable for ages 6+. \nIf heavy rain/ice/snow or road closures occur\, the walk will be canceled. Volunteer indoors or outdoors alongside our horticulturists to support the care and upkeep of our landscape. Tasks vary by session and may include weeding\, mulching\, watering\, and more. \nGround Force Sessions: \n\n\nThrough October: Thursdays & Saturdays\, 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM \n\n\nStarting in November: Thursdays & Saturdays\, 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM \n\n\nWhat to Bring & Wear: \n\n\nLong pants\, long socks\, and sturdy closed-toe shoes \n\n\nInsect repellent\, sunscreen\, and a refillable water bottle \n\n\nRain gear if light rain is expected—we work in drizzle! \n\n\nRegistration is required to receive updates in case of cancellations or schedule changes. Please register at least 24 hours before each session. \nWe will supply gloves as well as all other tools and materials. For your safety\, all tools and gloves are washed and sanitized. Please meet at the barn in our parking lot. If the session is cancelled due to inclement weather or any other reason\, we will contact you.
