SUMMARY:House Hunters: Cavity-Nesting Birds
DESCRIPTION:House Hunters: Cavity-Nesting Birds\n\n\nThe Preserve has been designated an Important Bird Area by the National Audubon Society; it is a critical habitat for breeding migratory birds\, including cavity-nesting species. \nBecome part of our stewardship team for the day and shadow naturalist\, Josh DiPaola\, as he performs nest inspections on a variety of breeding sites in the Rockwood Hall area. Gain insight into their unique ecology and learn what you can do to help protect these species in recognition of World Migratory Bird Day. \nPlease wear sun protection\, bring water to drink and wear comfortable closed-toed shoes. We’ll walk about 1.5 miles round trip and we will be going off-trail; long pants tucked into your socks are recommended to prevent exposure to ticks and poison ivy. \n This program is at Rockwood Hall\, DO NOT go to the main entrance. \nThe parking lot is on Kendal Way off route 117\, just after the intersection of Phelps and Regeneron. If the lot is full\, you may park in the Phelps garage (free). \nGather at the kiosk at the top of the hill across the street from the parking lot. In case of bad weather\, the program may be canceled or postponed; you will be notified by 5 pm the day prior. \nMax: 20 people \nPhoto courtesy of Bill Golden
