Tocks Island: Dammed if you Do @ Main Library & via Zoom
June 8, 2023 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
In the early 1960s more than 7,000 families in New Jersey and Pennsylvania were forced to sell their homes or businesses to make way for a dam and reservoir that were never built. Award-winning journalist David Pierce tells the story of the families displaced by the ill-fated Tocks Island Dam Project, the squatters who illegally occupied the abandoned homes, and the courageous residents who mobilized a campaign opposing a giant bureaucracy.
Tonight’s presentation is part of the Focus on Culture Lecture Series, an initiative of the Historical Society of Stillwater Township. The series aims to increase awareness of the diverse cultures that built our county by exploring their occupations, lifestyles, traditions, and their contributions to the development of the region.
