Wild West City, the historic Netcong, New Jersey, western heritage theme park celebrating the legend and lore of the American frontier, open now for its 51st season. Wild West City will be open weekends starting May 3 through Columbus Day and daily starting June 23 through Labor Day, 10:30am-6pm. Wild West City has been owned and operated by the Stabile family of Sussex County since 1964. The site features a broad main street lined by hitching rails, old wooden sidewalks and a series of 19th century-style buildings hosting a variety of exhibits. The street serves as center stage for continuous live-action shows which daily feature actors performing as cowboys on horseback, lawmen and outlaws, recreating western adventures. Other attractions include an authentic stagecoach which visitors can ride, a 24-narrow gauge railroad, pony rides, a petting zoo, a “gold-prospecting” area, a working blacksmith shop, frontier heritage school house, a chuckwagon and mountain man encampment. The centerpiece of the site is the “Golden Nugget Saloon” offering refreshments, a full service bar and live country-western musical entertainment. In addition to the “Golden Nugget,” refreshments are also available at the “Silver Dollar Saloon,” and Frank’s Pizza. Visitors may choose to picnic in the large wooded grove. Weekends offer special performances on select dates. Visit their Web site for additional information. |
