PALSS is a speech-language pathology practice and social skills program, run by speech-language pathologist Jodi Haft, MS, CCC-SLP. Children of all ages, regardless of their cognitive abilities, may experience difficulties in social skills and/or language and speech development. Early identification and treatment are essential to help your child succeed. The PALSS social skills program is for children who are having trouble with socialization, including difficulty with friends, school, handling frustration or taking perspective (being aware of others’ thoughts and feelings). Before entering the PALSS program, professionals screen children during a 45-minute evaluation/parent meeting. If treatment is necessary, once per week, children meet for one-hour sessions per week, for an eight-week cycle. In the summer, there is a special cycle. Children meet twice per week for four weeks. Each cycle covers pragmatic and language skills in small groups that are led by certified speech-language pathologists who are specially trained. Their goal is for children to become more competent and confident social communicators, and to learn to develop relationships. Treatment in this area is also offered in dyads (two children). Individual speech-language therapy is available to treat articulation/phonological disorders, central auditory processing disorder, expressive/receptive language delay, fluency and voice disorders, and autism spectrum disorders.
