Family Counseling Service offers a Social Skills program for children ages 5-12, and now offers one for Teens as well. If your child is quiet or shy, sits alone in the lunchroom, plays by him/herself at recess, has difficulty sitting in one place for a period of time, has trouble managing feelings or negotiating with the environment, Family Counseling Service’s Social Skills program can help. Or, if your teen is spending too much time in his/her room, worries about fitting in, gets into a lot of fights at school, or has trouble interacting with peers, their new teen program is a great solution. Your son or daughter will learn to manage friendships, boost self esteem and confidence, improve communication skills, deal with anger, and practice problem solving skills in a warm and nurturing environment. Children and teens participate in small, age-appropriate groups led by trained professionals. The program is ten weeks long and includes time for parents to meet with professionals to receive feedback on how to help their child. Family Counseling Service also offers family, individual and group counseling; couples and marriage counseling, crisis and transition counseling, divorce and family mediation, child and adolescent services, employee assistance program, workshops for parenting, elder care serives, and Warm Line Family Support and Information Line.
