While Steps on Broadway is the studio of choice for many of today’s brightest stars, The School at Steps is the training ground for the young dancers who will follow in their footsteps. Designed for students interested in exploring various dance styles or those students already focused on a particular discipline, The School at Steps offers a variety of classes and levels in ballet, modern, tap, jazz, musical theater and hip-hop. Beginning with the Little Steps program and continuing through the most advanced classes, The School at Steps provides children with an opportunity to explore the world of dance, experiment and learn technique, and enrich their appreciation of this art form. As part of Steps on Broadway, young dancers are taught by an internationally recognized professional faculty whose excitement and example enhance a curriculum-based program for students, ages 2 through 18. The School at Steps, directed by Kate Thomas, offers academic year and summer programs and is divided into three divisions: Young Dancers (ages 2-5), Technique (ages 6-18) and Pre-Professional (ages 7-18). In addition to classes, students at the School are given performance opportunities including in-house concerts in Steps Studio Theater, a showcase performance at John Jay College and community concerts throughout the city.
