Jericho, NY 11753

For more than 30 years, the Jericho Jewish Center Preschool has been the hallmark for excellence in preschool education. Its new director, Carol Weber, has more than 15 years experience in early childhood education and was formerly the director of the preschool at the 14th Street Y in Manhattan. The philosophy of the school is “critical thinking through experiential learning.” Its goal is for children to develop skills that help them “think outside the box” and become lifelong learners. The school also ensures that their physical and social needs are addressed. Jericho Jewish Center Preschool fosters community and family and encourages parents to become active members of the school community. A certified, enthusiastic and nurturing staff at the school offers your child an engaging learning partnership. The curriculum includes a balance of active and quiet times that take place within newly renovated facilities. Jericho Jewish Center Preschool provides a child-centered, individualized setting where each child learns to make choices and work independently and collaborate with others. Students accomplish this by working in learning centers that include math, science, literacy, writing, computer, art, drama and cooking. Children are also encouraged to extend friendships and develop self-confidence and other social and emotional skills. A child’s physical needs are met by a variety of activities that take place in an age-appropriate, 15,000-square-foot outdoor playground and a large and spacious indoor gym. To enrich the curriculum, there are special events and field trips throughout the year. Jericho Jewish Center Preschool instills in each child a pride in his or her Jewish identity by celebrating Shabbat every Friday. Children are also made aware of Jewish traditions and holidays through stories, special activities, art, music and cooking. Jericho Jewish Center Preschool offers a Mommy and Me program and a six-week camp program. The preschool is licensed by the New York State Department of Social Services and registered with the New York State Department of Education.
