Don’t drop out of Hebrew School, drop in to the Hebrew Home Study program at Metropolitan Synagogue of New York, where their only rule is to have a positive Hebrew School experience. Children are encouraged to do what they are most capable of and what will make them feel good and accomplished- no more and no less. Metropolitan Synagogue understands that Manhattan families are busy and so they accommodate them by coming to you for Bar/Bat mitzvah preparation and only one afternoon a week! The unique Hebrew Home Study program prepares children ages 8-13 for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah in intimate groups (4-6 children) in the comfort of a home setting by teaching them Jewish ethics, culture, history and their verses. Children also meet with the Senior Rabbi to prepare for their speech and to have direct personal contact with him. Metropolitan Synagogue doesn’t require attendance at their Hebrew School for three full years to become a Bar/Bat Mitzvah, only the equivalent; however they offer private tutoring to speed up the process for any kids who may have started late, or for kids with learning disabilities or gifted learners. Metropolitan Synagogue doesn’t want your child to have to share their special day either- they have lots of Bar/Bat Mitzvah dates available and only have the ceremony for one child at a time. They offer a Havdallah Bar/Bat Mitzvah in the afternoon if two families are interested in the same date. They are also willing to have a Bar or Bat Mitzvah outside of the synagogue if it is needed. The service is only one hour. At last— a Hebrew school that both kids and parents can enjoy.
