As a former teacher and school psychologist, Dr. Lois Schatz has often heard it said that children would do so well if only they would: Do their homework more carefully, study harder, pay closer attention in class, develop a more positive attitude toward learning or get a tutor. There is an underlying assumption that each child can perform adequately if desired, and that tutoring or repeating the material will help them do so. But that is not always true! Realizing that children are different is the key to developing a realistic perception of your child’s ability to function in school. Dr. Schatz, Psy.D, M.S., M.A., is a licensed psychologist and clinical neuropsychologist, with expertise in how learning and behavior are associated with the development of brain structures and systems. Dr. Schatz provides neuropsychological evaluations, which yield pictures of children’s strengths and weaknesses, and how this affects their school and/or home performance and what this may mean for the future. This evaluation includes a set of specific recommendations to help children perform to the best of their ability in the fundamental skills every child must master to succeed. Remediation can be focused on specific areas of deficit while strengths can be enhanced, directing efforts toward helping children in the areas specific to them, in order to help them become more productive and enhance their growth. Dr. Schatz conducts neuropsychological testing for diagnostic and remediation purposes, and evaluates children suffering from learning disabilities, attention deficit disorders, stroke, brain injuries, behavioral problems, depression and other psychological disorders.
