City Lights Youth Theatre offers students ages 3-19 after school and weekend theater arts classes as well as opportunities to perform in full-scale productions. Since 1991, City Lights’ process-oriented classes, productions and in-school residencies have brought together New York City youth from diverse backgrounds in the development and performance of theater. In each of their age-appropriate classes, professional teaching artists create a nurturing and supportive environment that encourages risk-taking and promotes the discovery of individual strengths. Their ability to challenge students as actors is quite evident in their 2009 play and musical productions, as well as their Spring Performance Festival. Spring semester classes are available in acting, musical theater, playwriting and production, and every course culminates in a staged presentation for family and friends. The spring semester begins in January 2009. For more information, or to request a brochure, please call (212)262-0200 or visit the new Web site. You may register online, and financial aid is readily available for any child who demonstrates need.
