From classes for parents-to-be to afterschool programs for kids and activities for teens, the 92nd Street Y provides a supportive, noncompetitive environment that allows children to reach their full potential— and have fun doing it! The Y’s initiative for children five and under, 92nd Street Y Wonderplay™ Early Childhood Learning, offers more than 400 activities that inspire curiosity and a love of learning. There’s everything from new-parent playgroups to classes in art, music, dance and sports. School-aged children can learn cartooning, architecture (!), pottery and jewelry-making; take music classes or have private lessons; study dance, from beginner ballet, modern and jazz to teen swing and hip-hop; or get moving with gymnastics, basketball, swimming and yoga. The Teen Program offers dozens of volunteer and social opportunities, while the Special Needs Program provides supportive afterschool and Saturday programs for young people with developmental disabilities. The Y also offers programs that introduce families of all backgrounds to Jewish holidays and traditions. And each summer, through the more than 12 camps in its Camp Program, the 92nd Street Y offers children ages 3 to 18 an unusually wide range of summer options, from “traditional,” art, science and teen opportunities to specialty mini-camps in gymnastics, filmmaking, baseball and musical theater.
