A preschool child’s capacity to learn is unique. Therefore, children in that age group need a stimulating environment that helps channel their energy into constructive outlets, both physical and mental. The Children’s Workshop is a creative learning center dedicated to the development of the whole child - including social, emotional and physical growth. The center prepares children for successful entry into regular school environment by providing a home-like atmosphere with love and understanding to children as young as 2½. All members of the teaching staff have four year degrees and participate in continuous in-service education programs for professional advancement. In addition, two staff members possess Masters Degrees, as does the new owner/director, as well as having her Reading Literacy Certification. The student to teacher ratio is 15 to 2. Some teachers have been at the school for as long as 20 years. The nursery school curriculum emphasizes socialization skills and both small and gross motor coordination. The pre-kindergarten program emphasizes readiness skills to facilitate a successful transition to kindergarten using programs such as Land of the Letter people, a pre-reading phonics program, and HOLT Math. The full day Kindergarten program utilizes both phonics and whole language programs for language arts. “Hands on” math, science, social studies, conversations Spanish, art and physical education, complete and enrich the curriculum. Parental involvement is key to the curriculum. A variety of opportunities for participatiom are available for interested parents. Parent/teacher conferences are held twice yearly.
