The benefits of horseback
riding are endless, providing riders of all ages with physical
and mental stimulation. Under new ownership, Lakewood Stables
offers many exciting programs for the enjoyment, education
and training of new and experienced riders. The 100-year-old
establishment hosts the only expansive riding facility on
Nassau County’s South Shore. A new, weekly summer
camp program is an excellent way for children ages 5 and
older to bond with dozens of beautiful creatures. Through
quality instruction, campers learn the basics of horse care,
washing, grooming, handling equipment and feeding. They
enjoy horseback riding on trails through 775 acres in Hempstead
Lake State Park along a scenic lake and golf course. Children
also break for lunch in an air-conditioned, renovated club
house. Campers learn about equine skills from a trained
staff in activities such as: a barn tour and introduction;
scavenger hunts; discussing horse color and breed; bridle
and ring races; “red light, green light” on
horseback; Bran Mash Day; caring for the tack and stalls;
discovering riding styles and disciplines and more! Lakewood
Stables prides itself on excellent customer service and
safety. Each rider is treated with personal attention. Private
