Is your child a swashbuckler at home? Island Fencing Academy provides the unique opportunity for your child to learn fencing in a friendly and safe environment. The sport of fencing is not only a fun and challenging experience, it teaches discipline, improves balance, and develops eye-hand coordination. They provide the safety equipment for their beginner fencers so Jedi light sabres and sticks can stay at home! Island Fencing Academy offers the following programs: Mini-Musketeer Fencing Program (ages 5-7) developed to introduce fencing to kindergartners and 1st graders using foam weapons and plastic masks of the Mini-Fence® system. Intro Class (ages 7-14) is a one-time four week class designed to introduce the sport of fencing to students with little or no prior exposure to fencing. Basic skills taught are footwork, simple offense and defense tactics, rules of the game, and sport etiquette. New classes begin the first week of each month. Intro and Beginner Camps (ages 7-14) are a fun alternative to their regular classes. The camps incorporate lots of physical and mental games. There are two training sessions a day which include footwork, skills training, tactical sessions, games, and bouting. Week-long camps run from 9am-3pm. Call for a brochure or visit their web site (islandfencingacademy.com) to learn more about their programs if your child is interested in participating in Long Island’s fastest growing sport known as Physical Chess!
