The Happy Bookworm was born after these teachers engaged in various classes with their children and recognized a need for programs that explore stories in a fun manner. Itty Bitty Bookworms, for children ages 15-24 months, and Junior Bookworms for those ages 2-3, does just this. Age-appropriate classes introduce children to literature and make it come alive through the use of related hands-on art, music, poetry and movement activities. Children develop early literacy skills by reading books by new and familiar authors. Each class begins with a variety of tabletop activities that use educational toys, which help to develop early literacy, fine motor and cognitive skills while promoting social interactions. Weekly themes are focused around an engaging book, and children interact with the story through the use of puppets, role playing and props. Stories are also reinforced as children create art projects and additionally learn about a related poem or song.
