For a summer full of non-stop fun,
outdoor recreation and exploration, discover the YMCA of Greater
Bergen County’s summer programs. Nestled in the scenic
Bear Mountain Camp region of Harriman State Park, the Y’s
sleep-away and day camps are exciting getaways for active
and adventurous children. For the day camps, daily transportation
is provided from the YMCA’s Hackensack location with
buses leaving at 8:30am and returning at 4:15pm. Michikamau,
the YMCA’s sleep-away camp, invites 8 to 14-year-olds
to experience a summer packed with new friendships, athletic
events, water sports, arts and crafts, nature exploration,
hikes, campouts, dances, films, carnivals and more! Children
are grouped together in cabins by age and are supervised by
an experienced staff of friendly counselors who know how to
make everyone, including nervous first- time campers, feel
welcome. Safety is a top priority and the camp health director
is on duty at all times. Fresh air, acres of woodland, scenic
views, excellent facilities— it’s a camper’s
paradise! Kahagon, a day camp especially designed for 5 and
6-year-olds provides ample individual attention as the youngsters
play in the playground, take swimming lessons, make crafts,
participate in nature activities and enjoy sporting events.
Even more exciting activities abound for 7 to 12-year-olds
at camp Oratam. The varied program is rich in fun, athletics,
nature and socialization! To find out more about any of these
camps, registration, session dates and open houses, call the
YMCA at (201)487-6600.
