The School at Steps Summer Programs (July 7-27 and July 28-August 17) is designed for students ages 2-18 interested in exploring various dance forms, as well as for those already focused on a particular discipline. The summer programs offer each student a comprehensive dance experience suitable to their age, ability and interest. The Young Dancers Summer Program (ages 2-6) welcomes children to the exciting world of dance and music. Classes in each three-week session are designed to introduce creative movement exercises that promote imagination, body coordination and rhythmic awareness. Afternoon Workshops (ages 10-18, three-week sessions) in Tap, Latin and Break Dancing are offered at the beginning/intermediate level. Students may register for one or any combination of workshops consisting of two one-hour classes per week. The Summer Intensive (ages 12-18, three-week sessions, by audition only) offers a ballet and a theater dance focus. Students take five to six classes per day Monday through Saturday culminating in a studio performance. In addition, students receive consultations in stage makeup, pointe shoe fitting, performance-related lectures, dance history classes and nutrition workshops. New this summer is Explore Dance: Create your own dance experience (ages 9-15, July 7-August 17). This program provides a unique opportunity to sample the wide range of disciplines offered at The School at Steps. Designed to provide the freedom of choice offered in the adult program, Explore Dance classes are strictly limited by age and capacity thereby promoting more individualized attention. Explore Dance classes are offered six days a week. For complete information, audition dates and registration forms visit www.stepsnyc.com/school.
