Parenting Through Summer,

All Star Hockey Academy,

American Hungarian Museum, Reid Memorial Library, 80 Third St., Passaic, (973)473-0013. Established to preserve, exhibit and cultivate Hungarian culture, the Museum features a wide variety of memorabilia, folk art treasures, crafts, costumes, embroideries and examples of fine art, as well as special exhibits, lectures, performances and workshops. American Labor Museum, Botto House National Landmark, 83 Norwood St., Haledon, (973)595-7953. Museum advances public understanding of the history of work, workers and the labor movement with special attention to ethnicity and immigrant experience. Features hands-on exhibits and tours for kids. $1.

Dey Mansion, 199 Totowa Road, Wayne, (973)696-1776. Also known as the Washington Headquarters Museum, this superb example of Georgian architecture housed on a spectacular two-acre site, offers a look at the actual mansion that was George Washington’s headquarters during the Revolutionary War. The grounds feature a blacksmith shop, herb-vegetable garden, formal garden, plantation house and picnic area. Mansion hrs: Wed.-Fri., 1-4:30pm, Sat. and Sun., 10am-4:30pm.

Hamilton-Van Wagoner House, 971 Valley Road, Clifton, (973)744-5707. Built in 1817, this fine example of an authentic pioneer homestead features a variety of changing exhibits of historic interest and offers visitors a look at open hearth cooking.

Lambert Castle Museum, Valley Road, Paterson, (973)881-2761. Built in 1892 by silk magnate Catholina Lambert, this magnificent structure offers visitors Lambert’s extensive art collection, as well as a spectacular view of the Passaic Valley, the New York Metropolitan skyline and the Kittatinny Mountains. Museum hrs: Wed.-Fri., 1-4pm, weekends, 11am-5pm.

Paterson Museum, 2 Market St., Paterson, (973)881-3839/74. Re-live Paterson’s heyday as the “Silk City” of the world with machinery of the past. Museum hrs: 10am-4pm, weekends 12:30-4:30pm.

Ringwood Manor, Ringwood State Park, Morris Avenue, Ringwood, (973)962-7031. Housed in Upper Passaic County, this national historic landmark features a variety of furnishings, Hudson River School paintings and an assortment of prints and lithographs that reflect the living conditions of iron baron Abram S. Hewitt’s family through the early 1930s. Museum hrs: Tues.-Sun., 10am-4pm.

PARKS & NATURE


Garret Mountain Reservation
, Rifle Camp Rd., West Paterson. Situated more than 500 feet above sea level, this 569-acre recreational area provides many athletic fields, a lake for fishing, trail rides and an equestrian center, as well as sweeping views of northern New Jersey, from Passaic County to the Manhattan Skyline.

Goffle Brook Park, Goffle Rd., Hawthorne. This 103-acre park is adjacent to the Goffle Brook. The northern section contains a duck pond, which is stocked with trout for fishing during the summer. The southern section of the park contains numerous athletic fields, a playground for the disabled, and picnic sites. A monument commemorates the Revolutionary War encampment of General Lafayette.

New Jersey State Botanical Garden, Ringwood State Park, Morris Avenue, Ringwood, (973)962-7031. This magnificent 96-acre area features a variety of plants and flowers from around the world. Included in the Garden area is the Crab Apple Vista, the Perennial Border, Lilac Garden, Peony Garden, Magnolia Walk and more. Open daily from sunrise to sunset.

Pompton Park, Pompton Lakes & Wayne. Located across the Pompton Lakes and Wayne Township border, this 75-acre park offers residents the opportunity for picnicking, camping, boating and fishing.

Preakness Valley Park and Golf Course, 209 Totowa Rd., Wayne. This 386-acre park and golf course offers outdoor activities throughout the year. Year round, residents can play golf at one of the more attractive public courses in northern New Jersey. The park provides ample room for picnicking and athletics of different species of wildlife that inhabit Passaic County that are found in the park.
