Since 1983, The Nature of Things has offered the New York metropolitan area and Connecticut quality outreach environmental programming featuring a wonderful selection of captively raised exotic and domestic animals. This unique educational organization continues to be directed by its original owners, Deborah and Allan Mumford, from their home in North Salem. In 1983, Deborah, a skilled naturalist educator, left the Pace University Environmental Center, and began The Nature of Things. The program has evolved, currently providing services to more than 100 early childhood centers and family day care programs, schools and libraries in Westchester and surrounding communities. The staff consists of seven professional educators, a live animal curator and an office manager. All programs are developmentally appropriate, sensitive to those with special needs and creatively designed to expose each audience to the life-cycles and adaptations found in the natural world. In addition, the staff is available to senior centers and adult programs, scouting groups, afterschool programs and environmental groups. The staff will even visit private homes for individual birthday celebrations! For more information including current fee schedule, program topics and a photo gallery of the current live animal collection, visit www.thenatureofthings.com or call (914)276-3454. |
